'Itch' | 2021 | Video art

'Itch' was created whilst on residency at ONCA Arts Barge on Brighton Marina. I found the history of the boat visceral from the moment I arrived. Built 100 years ago, it was used to transport various cargos around Europe. I was immediately drawn to this structural column bound with rope. Reminiscent of a giant scratching post for a cats, I began to think of the trade of wild big cats, drugged and stuffed into hulls such as these. Meditating on remembering our animal selves, interspecies communication and the feral female body, 'Itch' was made with support from ONCA Arts.
